Problems of decision making play a central role in various fields of research. An emerging ‘science of decision making’ has been generating surprising insights in recent years, showing amongst other things that the traditional homo oeconomicus model is insufficient and that emotions play an influential role in decision-making.
However, in order to realize the overwhelming opportunities provided by a better understanding of decision, a systematic and productive integration of research in the humanities as well as the social- and natural sciences is called for.
Decision making therefore provides the ideal focus for the ‘Center for Integrative Life Sciences’ (CILS) at the Humboldt-University, which will constitute a permanent research association of the disciplines relevant to the science of decision making.
