Fees and insurances

Fees and insurances

Tuition fees

In Berlin all university tuition fees are covered by the state. Therefore, students of the Mind and Brain school do not pay tuition fees for their doctorate.

Administrative fees

Each semester (Summer: April–September, Winter: October–March) the following administrative fees will have to be covered:

Student union: 37 Euro
Matriculation: 50 Euro

Semesterticket

The optional Semesterticket (public transport travel pass for students, covering Berlin and Postdam, valid for a semester) costs 160.50 Euro per semester.

Health insurance

Students will have to cover their own health insurance fees. Depending on the doctoral students' source of funding, age, and insurance package (state or private, full cover or not), monthly health insurance payments will come to around 200–220 Euro per calendar month.

Personal liability insurance

It is highly recommended that students take out a personal liability insurance at approx. 4 Euro per month.

Living expenses

Though Berlin generally is not an expensive city, monthly living expenses (housing, food, administrative fees, insurances, public transport, etc.) should be calculated at approx. 1,100 Euro per month.
