Fees and insurances
Tuition fees
In Berlin all university tuition fees are covered by the state. Therefore, students of the the Berlin School of Mind and Brain do not pay tuition fees for their doctorate.
Administrative fees
Each semester (Summer: April–September, Winter: October–March) the following administrative fees will have to be paid to the universities in Berlin:
Student union: 37 Euro
Matriculation: 50 Euro
Semesterticket
The optional Semesterticket (public transport travel pass for students, covering the whole of Berlin and Potsdam, valid for one semester = six months) costs 160.50 Euro per semester.
Health insurance
Students will have to cover their own health insurance fees. They will have allow for this approx. 200 Euro per month (without personal liability and accident insurances).
International short-term visitors can be insured for 123 Euro per month (via DAAD - please contact the School’s office for forms); this also includes personal liability insurance and accident insurance.
Personal liability insurance
It is highly recommended that students take out a personal liability insurance. This comes at approx. 4 Euro per month.
Living expenses
Though Berlin generally is not an expensive city, monthly living expenses (housing, food, administrative fees, insurances, public transport, etc.) should be calculated at approx. 1,100 Euro per month.
