Mind and late-capitalist society: the singularity hypothesis, artificial intelligence, robotics and their consequences for possible future scenarios. The relationship between our brain/mind and the ecological system in which we live. Is an integrated research towards an ecology of mind still possible, especially when facing the growing concern about climate change and “anthropocene” in general?

I am very interesting in the cerebral cortex ability to freely combine aspects of immediate sensory information with internal experience of the world in order to make predictions about the future. Yet, there is a lack of testable hypotheses about the cellular mechanisms by which sensory information is integrated with information stored internally in the brain. It is also not clear how this interplay contributes to sensory perception In this regard, my research intends to study basic computational principles such as contextual modulation and recurrent processing on the physiological level and its contribution to cognitive performance.

My current research interests center on the relationship between “factive” and “normative” orders of explanation, especially (but not exclusively!) as these are deployed in the biological and social sciences. I’ve also been growing increasingly interested in contemporary philosophy of action, metaethics, and social epistemology, as well as various issues that emerge at their intersection (e.g., the epistemology of disagreement; the distinction between “theoretical” and “practical” reason; the affective, empirical, and ethical underpinnings of epistemic phenomena like “belief,” “doubt,” “ignorance,” “expertise,” etc.).
