Grade improvement for applicants

In 2024 there won’t a subject test for applicants of the master’s program Mind and Brain.

Applicants can improve their GPA by providing additional information.

MIND TRACK

  • Grade improvement I:
    Mind Track applicants can improve their GPA by 20 % when having studied either classes worth 10 ECTS (5 American credits) in the field of Philosophy of Mind.80 % of a Philosophy of Mind class should deal with one or several of the following topics:

    Recent theories of the consciousness (monism/physicalism, dualism, epiphenomenalism, functionalism, behaviorism), self-consciousness, first/second person problems, freedom of will.

    Or studied classes worth 5 ECTS (2.5 American credits) in the field of Philosophy of Mind and 5 ECTS (2.5 American credits) in the field of recent Philosophy of Knowledge or Philosophy of Science.

    80 % of a Philosophy of Knowledge or Philosophy of Science class should deal with one or several of the following topics:

    Explanation, knowledge, causality, truth, realism/constructivism.

During the application process applicants will be asked to list the titles of relevant courses in a table. The listed courses must also appear on the applicant’s transcript(s).

If it is not evident from the course titles in the table and on transcript alone that the aforementioned topics were covered, applicants should provide additional documents. These documents can be either the description(s) of (a) relevant module(s) from the module handbook or schedules of individual courses. The authenticity of course schedules has to be confirmed by a signature or stamp from the university.

Please do not turn in complete module handbooks but only the descriptions of relevant modules!

  • Grade Improvement II:
    Mind Track applicants can improve their GPA by 10 % when they published a first author paper in an international peer-reviewed journal in the fields of philosophy or neuroscience.

Please provide the abstract and the exact indication of source where the article can be found.

  • Grade improvement III:
    Mind Track applicants can improve their GPA by 10 % when they have work experience or on the job training either in academic management or science journalism in the fields of philosophy or neuroscience of at least 900 hours.

Please provide an informal letter from your employer with the company’s or institution’s official letterhead. The letter must state explicitely the number of working hours (either weekly hours for that period or total hours).
 

BRAIN TRACK

  • Grade improvement II:
    Brain Track applicants can improve their GPA by 10 % when they published a first author paper in an international peer-reviewed journal in the fields of psychology or neuroscience.

Please provide the abstract and the exact indication of source where the article can be found.

  • Grade improvement I:
    Brain Track applicants can improve their GPA by 10 % when they have work experience or on the job training in a neuro-cognitive or psychological research lab of at least 900 hours.

Please provide an informal letter from your employer with the company’s or institution’s official letterhead. The letter must state explicitely the number of working hours (either weekly hours for that period or total hours).
