This summer school is not a series of independent lectures that can be attended separately but a thematically coordinated and didactically cohesive unit with a fixed number of places. We therefore ask for your understanding that participation is exclusively reserved for students who wish to complete the full program and earn credit points for their studies and that we do not accept guest listeners.
Extended deadline: 14 June 2025 (CET)
Before applying or contacting us, please read the following instructions carefully.
ELIGIBILITY Criteria
Due to high demand and limited capacity, participation is restricted to:
(1) Master’s and PhD students in Philosophy programs at Humboldt-Universität (HU), including exchange students.
(2) HU Master’s and all PhD students in the Mind and Brain programs.
(3) External PhD students (of all disciplines) whose research directly relates to the Summer School topic.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
For HU Students (Categories 1 & 2):
- Register here via Moodle
- Extended deadline: June 14, 2025 (CET)
* Special Note for PhD Students:
- PhD students from HU Philosophy or Mind and Brain programs have two application options:
o Standard registration through the link above, OR
o Application via letter of motivation (using the external PhD student link below) - Applying with a letter of motivation is recommended if (and only if) your research closely aligns with the Summer School topic, as this may increase your chances of acceptance.
For External PhD Students (Category 3):
- Register here via Moodle (instructions here, scroll down for English)
- Extended deadline: June 14, 2025 (CET)
- You must provide a brief letter of motivation explaining how your dissertation topic relates to the Summer School topic (max. 400 words, see Moodle Submission Tool).
SELECTION PROCESS
- HU Master’s and PhD students (of HU Philosophy or Mind and Brain) will be selected by lottery.
- External PhD students (and HU PhD students who choose to apply via submission) will be selected based on their letter of motivation, subject to capacity limitations.
- All applicants will be notified of selection results by June 15, 2025.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students from other programs cannot be accommodated due to space limitations. We appreciate your understanding and request that you do not send individual inquiries regarding exceptions.
CREDIT POINTS (applicable to HU only)
Credit points can be earned for active participation (for group work during the summer school) as usual in an advanced seminar (Hauptseminar). Please note that it is not possible to complete module examinations (Modulabschlussprüfung, e.g., written or oral exam, term paper or Hausarbeit) in this summer school.
We kindly ask for your understanding that we are unable to provide individual advice regarding the allocation of credit points. If you are unsure how many credit points you can obtain, please do the following:
- Check in AGNES which module in your degree program the course is open to.
- Look up how many CP you can earn for a Hauptseminar of Master’s course in this module by consulting the Degree Program Regulations applicable to your degree (Philosophy or Mind and Brain). Usually this should be 2–3 credit points, depending on the specific degree program.
