Important information regarding the completion timelines
Important information regarding the completion timelines for the education component of the M&B doctoral program:
As the program is being phased out in its current form, we would like to ensure that all currently enrolled doctoral candidates will complete the Teaching Weeks and Key Competencies courses of the Mind and Brain doctoral education program and obtain their transcripts within the next year.
Extended deadline for Teaching Weeks
Under the original program structure, the Teaching Weeks were intended to be completed within the first two to three semesters of your doctorate. For the last admitted cohort (Cohort 18, admitted in 2024), this period would have ended on 31 March 2026: https://www.mind-and-brain.de/doctoral-program/curriculum
To support all current doctoral candidates, we have decided to grant an extension of two additional semesters. The final deadline to complete all Teaching Weeks will be
31 March 2027
This means that all candidates will have had at least five semesters to complete the teaching weeks originally designed for a shorter timeframe.
Key competencies courses
If you would like to include key competencies courses in your transcript of studies, this can only be arranged until 31 March 2027. Please note that while it will still be possible to attend key competencies courses within the Berlin University Alliance after this date, they will no longer be recorded on your M&B transcript.
End of current education program
After 31 March 2027, the current Mind & Brain education program will no longer be available to doctoral candidates.
M&B Transcript requests by 30 April 2027
All requests for transcripts of studies must be submitted no later than 30 April 2027 (Dr. Dirk Mende, mb-education@hu-berlin.de). After this date, transcripts can no longer be issued.
Candidates are asked to review their current progress and plan accordingly to meet these deadlines. Our goal is to support candidates in completing the education program requirements smoothly and successfully.
Travel grants
Travel grants can still be applied for in 2026 and until the summer (June/July) of 2027: https://www.mind-and-brain.de/doctoral-program/travel-grants
Reimbursements will have to go through the finance dept. of HU and can only be processed and paid out until 31 October 2027.
